How to Hustle When You Lose Your Way

Just this Sunday, I lost a gig that provided 70% of my income. I was crushed. It was devastating to say theleast, because it had come on the worst time possible.

Aside from the fact that I have two people to support, I’m halfway through a move to get a housing loan, lost a big chunk of my savings to big payments (for insurances and large expenditures), and things have just been brutal for me and Ces. I will be completely honest, I needed that money. Badly.

But now it’s gone, and I really don’t have any moves. Not blaming anyone, not even myself. There just comes a time when God closes a door, and there’s no other doors in sight.

When times get rough, what do you do? How about when times get brutal?

I remember a friend asking me two days ago:

“So what are you going to do for money now?”
My answer, “Trust God.”
He says, “Trust is great, but you need to feed your family.”
I pause and think, “That’s right I do. But I’ve never fed them, it was always God.”

I am reminded at this juncture of my life by Romans 8:28, “For the Lord makes all things work together for the good of those who loves Him.”

So how is losing a large chunk of income at a time when I need it most, and with no options going to work for my good? To be honest, I don’t know. There comes a point where you just lose you way, and don’t know where to go.

This circumstance is the reason why I hustle. See the world will force us to trust on our own strength and ability to hustle. But God’s word says otherwise. He says to hustle in only one area- that’s faith.

We can work all we want, fight all we want, battle all we want. But unless we understand these two things, we will hustle until we’re burnt out.

It’s not up to us.

We can’t make things better, and it’s not up to us to make things work together for our good. Left to ourselves, we will only mess things up. Why? Because there’s just too many things out of our control.

It’s God’s intention to make things work.

God did not make us to be broken. We broke ourselves down. With stress, worries, sin, arrogance, pride, we made the perfect imperfect. But it is his intention to make things work together for our good.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people are going through things a lot worse than what I’m going through now. And if that’s you then I hope this encourages you to hustle, the way it has encouraged me to hustle.

We do not hustle because we have the ability to- because we have the answers, we have the skills, we have the connections. We hustle because we are in faith that in the end, God will pull things together and make things beautiful.

“Not by power, not by might, but by my Spirit says the Lord.”

Like always, it’s time to hustle.
