How to Discover Your God-given Purpose God’s Way

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2

Imagine what your life would be like if you had no purpose. No reason to live, to wake up in the morning and, to add value to the world and to others. Just an aimless and meaningless life that has no weight. That kind of life sounds extremely scary feeling, doesn’t it?

Science shows that people who live a life with direction will most likely live longer and happier than others. It’s in our wiring to desire purpose and direction in life. But the pain point for us all today is finding our purpose. How do you know what your direction is? From scripture found in Romans 12:2, we get three essentials to finding purpose in life.

Reject the World’s Pattern

Society has its own template for a purpose. It wants you to believe that their meaning in life is a certain status, financial attainment, popularity level or skill capacity. But truth is that there is no template to purpose. Because we God created us unique, purpose supposed to be personal.

When you base your direction on what you see in other people- what car they drive, what places they travel to, what career they’re in- and limit yourself to that mould, you won’t find your purpose. You need to reject the world’s pattern and ask God for your unique and personal calling.

Transform Yourself

God’s purpose will always be bigger than who we are today. That’s why we need to continue to seek transformation and growth. At a young age, I learned that God wanted me to be a communicator who would teach truths that would positively impact other people. But the problem was that I was very timid and insecure.

So I had to work on myself and allow God to transform me into the person he called me to be. I practised my speaking and writing skills, allowed God to remove my fears and stepped out in faith. If there’s a gap between who you are today and who God wants you to be, close that gap by growing and transforming into the person God called you to be.

Renew Your Mind

Purpose starts in your mind. Question is, what do you fill your mind with? Do you fill it with negative thoughts or senseless amusements? Living a life of purpose dictates that we fill our minds with things that will add value to us and bring us closer to our calling.

Don’t waste your time filling your mind with lies and deceptions of the enemy. Don’t waste your life being passive in the enrichment of your mind. Continue to learn and unlearn so that you can renew your mind. When that happens, you will be able to discern God’s purpose and pursue it.
